Only about 15% of the energy from the fuel you put in your tank gets used to move your car down the road or run useful accessories, such as air conditioning. The rest of the energy is lost to engine and driveline inefficiencies and idling. Therefore, the potential to improve fuel efficiency with advanced technologies is enormous. With an Electric Car it costs just $1.00 per 100kms with MUCH more performance than with petrol at $20.00 per 100kms.Electric Car in-wheel motor Siemens eCorner

Change the wheel! The motor is not part of the rim.

cool idea and all but what are you going to do when you get a flat?

Siemens?

These wheel motors are BLDC meaning the electrics are 100% insulated from the elements (ie No Brushes). On the other hand any standard automotive alternator / starter motor has brushes exposed to the elements... and are subjected to a rediculous amount of heat being mounted on an ICE yet they rarely fail other than brush wear so these wheel motors have even less chance of failure due to the environment they operate in than an alternator or starter.

i salute the work put into generating this design and creating a 3d animation but what about the dirt, harsh elements like water, mud, ice and so on?

This is the type of elegant design that would make any mechanical engineer proud.

Great question. Understand that a generator and a motor are the same. Spin a motor and you produce a current. Run a current through a generator and it spins. There's no need to install a seperate generator. The motor can be used. Stay curious. This is how advances are made in any field. Curious people like yourself.
