If microsoft made a zunephone or something... It would probably have more software compatibility. not to mention the Price will most likely be considerably lower. Why pay an extra 300$ to put a big apple sticker on your forehead?

my 3.2 quad-core only cost £750, and I built it myself. Its also got 2 gig of video ram ready for gaming.Yeh it does suprise me that you can change CPU's, and thats cool. I guess it all comes down to what you like - I like the way windows works, I was never a fan of the finder, and I'm not really swayed by aqua effects and that. I use my windows cos its perfect for me - it isnt too expensive, I can keep adding to it, it runs games and its perfect for 3D animation.

Problem with running windows programs on a mac is that they don't seem to work too well - I'm an animator, and one of my mates tried running XSi (One of the leading 3D packages) on his mac and it was appalling. he ended up selling the Mac for a pc that was cheaper and had more power.I'm not contesting that the Macpro with 8 cores is a fantastic machine - but it does retail for £2000. And what programs on a Mac really require that? For video editing, I'm running Avid and there is no slowdown.

Macs can run Windows programs as well as OS X programs. Your quad-core is faster than an 8-core MacPro? I doubt it. Incidentally Windows is absolutely rubbish at SMP so you will never use your multiple cores efficiently. And you might be surprised at how many parts in a Mac can be changed. You can even change CPUs.Granted there are less drivers for video cards but right now that's more due to Macs using EFI instead of BIOS. Look up hackintosh to see what unofficial video cards can be used.

So OSx can utilise a AMD 580X, can it?Or any number of other graphics cards etc...?I merely like Windows because I can run the programs I want and update bits as I want. The only thing I would buy a Mac for would be a program you can only get for a Mac (Pro-tools, for example, works better on a Mac) I have a quad-core PC that cost me about 800 quid and its far faster than any Mac and can run games, XSi and when i need to, i can just swop bits around and keep it up to date.

No, Apple only wants to support its own hardware. OS X is based on FreeBSD. Maybe you should read up about BSD before you make dumb comments about what hardware an OS is capable of supporting.FreeBSD runs on Intel, alpha, Sparc, ARM, MIPS, PPC and even XBox. Does Windows support any CPU architectures other than x86? No!
