Type VII? Ach, you'd be LUCKY to be put on a Type VII. Now the Type II, THERE was a small u-boat! I remember back when I served on one... just joking. Only Keirfree thinks I'm old enough to be a WWII vet. But they have a type II on display in the Ukraine I'd like to see someday.

Yes, the sailors were non-Nazi. They were doing their job. But they were all loyal to Grossadmiral Doenitz (you even see his portrait on the sub wall) and Doenitz, if you read HIS biography on Wikipedia, was totally loyal to Hitler and was anti-Jew as well.

If you had to stoop and felt cramped in a Type IX, you'd have had an even more cramped experience in a Type VII, which was about 400 tons lighter and over all much smaller in all dimensions.

Hi, dockbillin. Sorry, but you are wrong. LI means "Leitender Ingenieur". That´s the rank of the chief-machinist. Johann has a rank below the LI. The LI is the technical chief of the whole submarine. The LI is Nr.1 in the engine matters and Johann ranks below the LI as Nr.2 in the engine room.And yes: The man in this video who replies "blöde Sau" is the LI. The man with the ruined nerves, who´s allways thinking about his wife back home.

That man is not the LI. He's a machinist, under the Obermachinist (Johann). The LI is the man in the control room, the deputy to the Captain, who has a wife he is always trying to get back to.If he had been the LI in the engine room, nobody would have dared make a comment to him.
