Thank you for explaining what a counter melody is. I have tried to explain this particular part of this song to people, so now I will actually sound like I KNOW what I'm talking about

I had a similar experience. About 13 years ago, I had front row seats in New York (went with some friends who were friends of the Phantom (I think his name was Tom something from Windsor, CT.) Anyways, hearing this song from that close was the most amazing theater experience I have ever had. Not only could you feel the sweat flyng off of these people, but to hear each and every different note was heart-wrenching! I will never forget it.

Excellent cast! One of the best I've heard. Carlotta's upper register is STUNNING!

A counter melody is a sequence of notes, perceived as a melody, written to be played simultaneously with a more prominent melody. (wikipedia) We use counter melodies in music. In Prima Donna, the counter melodies start at 1:20 when every one is singing their different lines.

I had front row seats two summers ago and the end of this song was performed directly in front of me. I was grinning so big, and chills were running up and down my body. One of the most amazing experiences of my life!!!!
