When Alan left Depeche Mode, Dave was circling the drain with his Heroine addiction, Martin was under a table somewhere drunk, and he had Fletch, who lends nothing creatively to the band, bossing him around like a pool boy. Martin writes great songs, Dave sings them amazingly, yet it is Alan that gave Depeche Mode a unique sound. You can listen to 5 seconds of a new song on the radio and immediately know it is D-Mode. Now that Dave & Martin are clean, they should talk about a project together.
