According to leading scientists, millions of children could have been saved if the pharmaceutical industry and World Health Organisation had collaborated to address the problem. Now, signs are emerging that malaria is developing resistance to the one effective drug which can still treat it. It's a development which threatens patients all over the world. Prevention is always better than cure. Since malaria is caused by bites from infected mosquitoes, people who live in areas where there are malaria outbreaks should drain all the stagnant water from their surroundings. This will destroy the mosquitoes' breeding grounds and eradicate the problem at its source.

Being in the medical field, this really pisses me off. If I could get out of the states for a while, go over there and help fight the epidemic, I would. Alas, that is just not possible for me. Malaria has been overshadowed by AIDS for 25+ years.
