Anke Huber was my favourite player and was disappointed she retired early. In saying that she had a very good career. Getting to number 4 was a fantastic effort.

I also just realized that (in her post match speech) that she did win 91-93, didn't play 94-95, won 96, and didn't play the next two years until 99. That means she was undefeated till that year where she lost in the semis. She basically won her first 33 matches there o_o

Monica is incredible, the fact that after the horrific incident and being able to come back, the first two grand slams she played upon her return she reached the finals!

What was Huber's career high?

Good points but Anke was a lot like Ivaniesivic (sp?). She could beat anyone when on and lose to anyone ranked 400 or below because she was mentally weaker than many opponents! True, she never beat Monica but Anke had the most problems with Miriam Oremans from Holland. She always had fits and could never beat her.

I know! That was weird about Anke because of the kind of player she was. She just became hindered against Monica for some reason, or Anke's game was good for Monica's game. Anke never even took a set off Monica but was close once or twice, and she still couldn't finish off the set!

The thing with Anke and the big matches was that she got nervous very easily. She had the game to beat a lot of top ten players and she did.

but we can see throughout that tournament what psychological barriers she had to overcome to win that title! if you notice, you will see how she struggled with the psych scars throughout that AusOpen! |
