I kept playing around in photoshop some more and found the extract filter. I think its probably the best to use for what I was describing. Its pretty simple to learn it, though its hard to get the image just right.

Ok, nice video. But I have an image that has mutiple colors in the background and I would like to have the model against a black background. I've tried using several different methods but I can't get the image to come away cleanly without erasing part of it. Hard to type out what all I've tried here, so I'm just asking if there is a simple way to do so. I want to keep the picture as is, only want to change it so that it looks like it was shot in a black room. Thanks

this was a very good tut. very fast but it turned out great to be ur first. kept findin myslef like WHOA WHOA wutt? lol lol but its turned out great. Thanks im new to PhotoShop so i dont kno how to do n e thing

Create a new layer. Place it under the model's layer. Fill it black. Tada.
