Yes, it does rather look like she's straining and doing unnatural things with her voice, and her voice can be quite still and smooth when she feels like it. I like what she does (after getting used to it, i think it's beautiful) - and I think she's evolved & matured over time - so I hope she doesn't damage her voice by doing what she does. I hope she has a good vocal coach who can teach her how to harness the power of her unique abilities whilst preserving her vocal chords.

I'm sure that's not her real singing voice.Look at her neck when she does the stranger-sounding parts.Her voice sounds nice sometimes,but at others I almost have to cringe. It's an acquired taste of music, I suppose.

Hrmm, she's very interesting. I'm not really sure what I think. I like her songs. If that voice is what comes to her naturally, then I think it is unique and beautiful in its own way. But I hope she is not forcing it (as many singers tend to do), especially as it is so different from her speaking voice. If she forces it, she will damage her vocal chords. But if it is natural, well, go girl! Go forth and be unique :)

The Wrong Trousers do an awesome version of this song, not better, but different. And to all the Joanna Newsom haters; I wouldn't kick her out of bed for eating crackers.

Her singing is so amazing! Rarely have I heard such emotional singing. My God, at around 2:00 I really thought she was gonna break down and cry! This is no doubt one of her most perfect songs. Wonderful rendition.
