That's a very worthwhile rendition. In the meantime I've posted one by Marianne Faithfull.I should find the lyrics of the formal English version. Maybe King Henry wrote some words to an existing melody.

a very good version of Greensleeves is the one of the soprano Izzy on her album New Dawn (it's available on Amazon)

Good vocal versions ... and I have heard a lot of them, are as rare as hen's teeth. You can hear many on Amazon in the mp3 download section.

My favorite pop version is by Glen Campbell. Try it if you can find it. I found it searching through Limewire. He sings it beautifully and the violins are wonderful.

I'm on a search for an excellent vocal of this song and haven't found it yet. This one is too formal and doesn't have the feeling. But a great one to post still. Excellent images. Some people think Enya did it (which I wish) but it turns out to be Loreena McKennitt (don't recommend). I can't see that nana Mouskouri did it.

I like kiri's voices a lot but on this piece the music accompanyment was modified to a modern hymn like work. All I can say is that a seed was planted at HENRY VIII's time but had grown to a tree at out 21TH CENTURY.

We all recognize this ancient melody as somehow a fabric of the universe ... I don't know how to express it. And yes, it is very healing. It is also know as the Christmas carol "What Child Is This".

It heals my feelings for some reason when listening to this very beautiful song and it gives them. Thanks so much for wonderful posting. |
