Not to quibble over inconvenient inconsistencies, but in the very beginning of the scene, Moochie could simply have positioned himself on one side of the freeway foundation pillars. As Christine approached he could have shifted his footing from one side of the pillar to the other. He would have been safe. His fatal mistake was getting out into the open and running ahead of the car. I guess the whole point was that bad guys are also stupid.
