Hey tarokirl, what language is your name? Is it Samoan? Also I'm trying to find a book written in Samoan documenting the various kinds of Samoan dances but there aren't any pre-1700. I'm really trying to find our written tradition. I mean if we don't have one, that would put us thousands of years behind other races.

btw I completely understand what you mean about the Polynesian dances thing! lol Its a guess as to why Pinoys love performing them, but its probably because the two peoples speak languages that belong to the same linguistic family, or that Filipinos find alot of similarities in how people live their day-to-day lives in both areas (the outrigger canoes, tropical islands, music etc).. But to be honest: I DON'T KNOW! lol Its most probably because Filipinos love to dance! :D

Hi tclaie808! This is a Dance (BASED on) one performed by people of the Maranao tribe of Mindanao island, who are Muslims. The dances of the Muslim Filipinos have much more Southeast Asian influences, but since the Philippines is a multicultural country, there are all sorts of folk dances, ranging from Hispanized to Asian and Pacific types, or mixes of all 3. Normally all types of folk dance "suites" are performed during get-togethers to reflect the mutlicultural nature of the Philippines :)

Is this a traditional Filipino dance? If so good job!!! This is the first time I've seen a traditional Filipino dance. I have always seen Filipinos do Polynesian dances, but never have I seen them do a traditional Filipino dance. Dont know why but Great job!
