I carnt believe it! This is one of my favourite jazz records which I havent heard for yonks. ( ie a long time) It is as fresh to me now as when I first heard it over 50 years ago.Wardell Grey was really inspired that day and Dodo Marmarosa, the pianist, was beside himself. Red Garland ? memory may be playing tricks. lol Listen around 3:45 when he starts to swing like mad. Thanks so much for posting this. I luuuuuuuuuuurve it .

I transribed this entire solo. Wardell never repeats one idea. I asked Anita O Day if she had ever worked with him. She said "Oh you mean the divine flow of endless ideas Wardell? Yeh, I worked with him?" Thse guys are swingin so hard...beautiful. Thanks!

It´s inteesting that like me, you link Wardellwith Sonny Stitt. The two great saxophone artists have many things in common, perhaps not so surprisingly since Wardell stayed at Stitt´s home at one time, and tutored yuong Sonny. |
