"Toward the end of the show, the lights dimmed and the room was filled with a thundering musical ovation. The curtains opened and the spotlight fell on a strange, unearthly presence wearing a black gown, clear plastic cape, and white gloves. As the orchestral refrain from Saint-Saens' 'Samson And Delila' was played, this strange Weimar version of Mickey Mouse began singing in an angelic voice. "I still get goose pimples when I think about it," remembers Joey Arias, who was in the audience that night. "Everyone became completely quite until it was over."Steven Hager, Art After Midnight: The East Village Scene1986 St. Martin's Press, excerptsSamson et Dalila by Saint-Saëns (Mon coeur s'ouvre a ta voix).

In a film I saw about Nomi they said that they actually had to specify to the audience that it was Nomi singing because many simply couldn't believe it was him singing.

A castrato would not be able to sing in the lower ranges since the procedure is done prior to adolescence. Mezzo-sopranos are only female, so I believe countertenor would be the correct range. And what an amazingly beautiful voice; my jaw was hanging open the entire time I listened for the first time. Thanks again for posting!

I think the last recognized castrato died in 1917.

Perhaps one of his friends knows his range. Kluas' baritone range is also very good. Speaking as someone who can sing in a limited falsetto AND a head voice, I believe he used the head voice.
