I now have an EWI myself, and the only way it has hindered my sax playing lately, is because I've been devoting more time getting use to the EWI. But actually, I find that learning the EWI has helped my playing on the sax in a special way. It's hard to explain, but I can find myself being able to think faster when playing fast. :-)

Having ones fingers on "keys" doesn't mean you're a faster player by any means - It's just easier - one of the main tenants of the sax's design. The Sax is one of the only instruments that doesn't use any open holes at all.I would expect the Ewi to be more of an "electronic clarinet" then an "electronic sax" - and clarinet players can generally play much faster than most sax players I've ever known...

Just so you know..... The EWI is way more ''ergonomically'' Challenging than sax.... especially with the rollers and all that so yeah

i didnt say, joe sounds like joe, just because of his fingerskills. for sure ergonomic issues are not music itself. i totally agree with that.

So you should probably just approach it like playing totally different instrument. It's not like playing saxophone disables one from playing piano. It's just how it works. Most problems with saxophone still come from bad breath support and overdoing issues. It's not Hendersons finger height that made him sound "Joe".Don't get me wrong, ergonomic issues are surely important! :) But they're not music itself. I don't think one should ban any musical possibilities for technical headrooms sake. |
