Rod Stewart & The Faces - Maggie May 1971 (1971 in Charts: UK No. 1 for 5 weeks)Songtext:Wake up Maggie I think I got something to say to youIt`s late september and I really should be back at schoolI know I keep you amused but I feel I`m being usedOh Maggie I couldn `t have tried Any moreYou lured me away from home just to save you from being aloneYou stole my heart but I love you anywayThe morning sun when it`s in your face really shows your ageBut that don`t worry me none in my eyes you`re everythingI laughed at all of your jokes my love you didn`t need to coakOh, Maggie I couldn`t have tried any moreYou lured me away from home just to save you from being aloneYou stole my heart but I love you anyway. All I needed was a friend to lend a guiding handBut you turned it into a lover and mother what a lover you wore me outAll you did was wreck in my bedAnd in the morning kick me in the headOh, Maggie I couldn`t have tried any moreYou lured me away from home just to save you from being aloneYou stole my heart but I love you anyway.I suppose I could collect my books and go back to schoolOr steel my daddy`s cue And make a living out of playing poolOr find myself a rock and roll band that needs a helping handOh Maggie I could have tried Any moreYou made a first-class fool out of meBut I`m as blind as a fool can beYou stole my heart but I love you anyway.(Instrumental)

This song was running as TOP HIT in the AudioChannels in the first HiSpeedTrains (ICE), but it was in 1991!, when I used German Railways (DB)frequently for about 120,000 kms.Was this Rod Stewart song already 20 yrs old at that time???Can't believe.

He was miming mandolin with his big pals The Faces as a dig at the fact that Top of the Pops never had bands playing live. Of course, Peely wasn't a player himself which just added to the joke. Interestingly,in those days, JP had nothing but contempt for TOTP and its inane presenting style but of course later he was to become one of the main anchors.

Too right. JP was a top bloke. Dunno what's going on with the hair on this though - must be making some kind of statement knowing Peely. God bless ya mate.

You mean Ronnie Wood?

You mean, Ron Wood did. Ronnie Lane just left. Too many Rons, easy mistake to make.
