Really great. Then again, the artistic vision was already there, they just gave it a lick of paint.

I think the remastered version looks impressive; however, the purist in me will always make me side with the originals. It's all about nostalgia. I don't know if these remastered episodes are in line with Roddenberry's notes on how the effects should be.So, in the end, I'll buy the originals on DVD and when I eventually get a Blu-Ray player, I'll buy the remasters in HD. Why buy both sets as SD. I better make room in my closet.

The nerd in me loves the update, the purist in me decries CGI effects that will look equally dated in 5 or 10 years anyways.Having said that, I think 0:45 is a BIG improvement over the original shot. The original is exactly what it had to be at the time. A hand-painted model on a string over the only color representation we had of the earth in the 60's (essentially an old-school globe with pale colors). Frankly, the public at large didn't have hi-res color pictures of earth from space yet.

I think the new shots look great. As long as they are appropriate to the scene and don't try change the story, then I don't see the problem. A show this great deserves special effects that are worthy of it.As for the purists: keep in mind that the original shows are untouchable: they will always be what they are and you don't have to like the remastered shows or even acknowledge them. But at least give it a chance. Who knows, you might like it. :)

Nice choice of music from ST: II

The old shots always have better color and composition... for a more dramatic effect..the new ones look more realistic.. but are blahhhhhh.... boring

I agree

I think these are beautiful! Also, I know alot of people dont give TOS a chance because of the hokey effects and I think these remasters might just expose TOS to a whole new audience. Think its very exciting to see!

Well... yeah. Bit of both, maybe. On paper, redoing the effects so that they look okay on HD isn't such a bad idea, but on HD it's also easy to notice just how much of the show wouldn't hold up at that quality. Why don't they start editing the more obvious shots of Shatner's toupeé? Techincally, they have to fix *everything* instead of a couple of ship shots. It leaves an uneven job that's a total waste of time and money, I think.
