yes yes yes! you know what you're talking about, Lou Reed is what Rock'n'Roll should be

They are very different- they actually talk about the dylan comparison somewhere and if I remember correctly the conclusion was that Lou decided to eschew the dylan-esque style he had adopted in a lot of early VU demos way before anything he wrote came out on anything except preswick. Lou Reed has always been under-appreciated (he's proof that the Rock 'n' Roll hall of fame is a sham). Lou Reed is what Rock'n'Roll SHOULD be.

You misunderstood what I wrote: 1) Never called this song old, although it is now, since it came out in 1989 2) Never mentioned upbringings & Lou Reed did not grow up in Queens, anyway 3) It wasn't a direct comparison, but one by default, etc...Read the comment again 'cause you seem to have missed the point altogether...You are not very smart, are you?

Lou is a gifted artist, legitimately angry about many of society's ills. This isn't exactly an 'old song', either. The Dylan comparison doesn't work at all...they are worlds apart thematically, stylistically, instrumentally. Upbringings in small-town Minnesota vs. Queens? Not much of a comparison there, either...Two very different, brilliant musicians we're lucky to have. Period.
