I've always assumed that the boy and the man in the raincoat both die for whatever reason. I like to think its a good death, but they die nonetheless.

LOL. If it's not in the book which it isn't then we can assume the author's vision did not include explaining the situation and wasting time which makes sense because....... it's about a man and his son! hahah, i mean the novel would not been nearly as captivating and beautiful to me if i had to read a bunch of ridiculous apocalyptic bullshit explanations. you get no where with that if you ask me. well i'm just rambling now i guess.

I'm with you. Terrible, terrible. I read a NYT interview with him once and it just helped keep the distance. This, along with his seal-pup clapping at the Oscars, has really diminished my imaginings of CM.
