king of the french bow? give me a break. this is a bowing exercise.... violinists do them all them time. try them, you might like them. put your first finger all the way out like he does & use flat hair to utilize & control the natural bounce in the stick....

I'm not saying it's impossible to do on German and practicing more he would be able to do it, but bassman is rightfully justified in saying it's more of a challenge for him as a German player than if he were to be a French player.

i disagree, I think that both German and French have their strengths and weaknesses. Having easier control of the bow is one of the French bows strengths over a German bow.plus Rabbath is a king of the French bow, example: "the art of the bow". Naturally when playing his own technique he would use his own preference of bow style over others, especially when he's so adept in one style, so most of his techniques are written for the French bow, that's why it would be harder for a German player.

As a German bow player, this is the most challenging passage I have ever encountered anywhere. Keep it up Rabbath!
