Gorgeous aria from Haydn's "L'anima del filosofo" (a.k.a. Orfeo ed Eurydice). This has also been sang by Cecilia Bartoli. Both versions are quite different from each other. I personally prefer Cecilia's version better but...you decide :)

She has a huge voice compared to most other sopranos actually ;)

Wait a minute...Sutherland has a huge voice? yes, she has a huge voice compared the traditional small voice colourate soprano.

You must be kidding me. As a mezzo Cecilia actually hit a higher note at the near and with much better agility.

Well, they are different. This aria sits in a different part of the voice for Joan. For Cecilia sits in the middle voice while for Joan sits in the low register, which is evidence by the difficulty thrilling low.

This is a lesson of superb singing!!!! Much more better than Bartoli's.

Pavarotti's high notes weren't big ,just well-placed with squilo ,every middle sized spinto tenor had a bigger voice than P.For huge high notes check her Puritani duet with Gedda.Gedda drowned her out on the high notes. She had a huge voice but she couldn't vary dynamics, her diction got terrible horrible after the mid 60's and she lacked dramatic and interpretive skills.

And to me Jessy Norman is more of a falcon...

Yep, not so much lighter but more lyrical. Her timbre was essentially more lirico-spinto, didn't have the steely edge of Callas or Nilsson.

But Sutherland's voice was bigger than Price's and Callas'... Her voice was close to that of Birgit Nilsson's in size, but in timbre her voice sounded much lighter. That's why it was perfect in bel canto and Verdi.

Sutherland sang a very successful Eva in Meistersinger in the fifties, when she was still young, and her voice was not yet at its biggest in regards to size. Also listen to her Norma, her Odabella and other Verdi roles. Her voice was enormous.
