You cannot debate on this subject, Mark Knopfler is obviously the best musician on earth, the most polyvalent...Love U MARK!!

Mark Knopler is a quintessential song writer and guitar player. You cant get better than him. Music is a harmony and therefore has to be complementary. Any necessary instrument removed will leave a hollow in the melody of the song. bands may fall apart even without bass guitars or any other instrument that would make the song sound whole. Lets appreciate the genius of the man since arguments about which instrument is important is unbecoming of a musician and is perspective oriented.

the whole discussion is stupid. the song lives with the guitar and percussion and all the other instruments. you take one out and it won't be the same!

Look...I would imagine that most if not all of us who have viewed this video is because we are fans of Mark Knopfler. The reasons we are fans of Knopfler may have some variety, however, at the core of this variety is the fact that the man is a great songwriter and his guitar playing is genius. I have yet to purchase a Dire Straits record or Knopfler record wondering what impact the drums will make...if you really think that a band needs a drummer, then have at it. |
