This song is a dark song in many ways, but I believe it has a message that should not be ignored. I didn't make this as an anti-war video, nor should it be taken as such. I am simply trying to show the devestation that humanity causes- the horrible things we have done to each other: the way that sin has crippled our world. Since Switchfoot is a Christian band, I make this a Christian video. That's what the song is intended to be.

I understand why they shun the label of christian rock. I cringe when I hear the word christian band usually. I started liking this when I was a christain. (I'm not anymore)But if I hadn't, the label would have scared me off and I would have missed out on some great music. Their music may have christian themes, but it isn't saying, "believe in god or you'll go to hell."It may be christian music, but it isn't just for christians. That's what I like about it.

- one last note: I also respect the Catholic traditions. If one man believes a day or tradition to be sacred, as long as it does not put God below them, or go directly against God's word, then I find them to be very deep-rooted and for the most part worthy traditions. I myself have many Catholic friends- I just didn't want my explanatio nabove to make anyone think I was specifically singling out every single Cathloic out there.

because Christ is not about wrath or anger or hatred. He is about love, goodwill, peace, and always helping those in need. He is about life. Whether you believe he is God or not, those words in the Bible are his words.Once again, I am not trying to beat down on anyone's beliefs. I am just simply expressing what I believe.

And I must say, to believe in a man who came to die for me- who did die- and who by multiple eyewitness accounts was seen to be risen from the dead- all because he loves me enough to do so, is simply amazing. I see perfect right for people to be angry at Christians- many who claim to be Christian do things such as kill abortion doctors and hold up signs at funerals proclaiming God's wrath. But those "Christians" have nothing to do with Christ. Nothing-

So in response to the Muslim query- I have nothing against their religion, and I sincerely respect their faiths and traditions, but I believe in Christ, and as this is so, Christ said that he is the "way, the truth, and the life." There is no other way. If I choose to believe that, then simply believing in him as a good person or prophet isn't enough.

In this case, it also can be said that if one does not recognized God- does not pursue after Christ himself- believing that he died and rose again, and wanting to be in a personal relationship with him- then that person really doesn't know God- do they? Whether a person chooses to believe in God is their choice, although I see more than enough evidence in history and the universe, from the amazing coincidence of our exact place in the universe to the very laws of physics and the beauty of it all

What Luther, Calivin and others during the Prodestant Reformation realized is that good works and tradition- the main focus of the Catholic church at that time- will not get you to heaven. The whole point of Jesus coming was to show God's love for humanity. It was to show us how to pursue a personal relationship with God. I'm not talking about becoming a servant bowing down forever and ever in the clouds with a harp, singing to God. I'm talking about deep, personal friendship- something amazing

In reponse to your other question, my comment on cutieutie13's statement is that just because you are Catholic does not mean you are Christian. The Catholic religion is based on rules and traditions that take precidence over God's words. That is exactly what Jesus himself was against- the dogmas and fervent religious traditions that the Israelites and Pharisee's put over God.

As I said, I totally agree that music is art- and you can interpret as you want. Switchfoot has always shunned the "Christian" title b/c it alienates ppl. Many people who claim to be Christian spin a very negative image of the word- but their songs are at their heart Christian- some like "Twenty Four" and "Gone" even mentioning or talking directly about God. I'm not bashing on how you see the song. I just don't want my reflecting on the Christian themes I see in the song to be bashed on either

Though the band is christian, Switchfoot has always shunned the christian rock label. I quoteth: "We've always been very open and honest about where the songs are coming from. For us, these songs are for everyone. Calling us 'Christian rock' tends to be a box that closes some people out and excludes them. And that's not what we're trying to do. Music has always opened my mind—and that's what we want". And I'm really curieus what you think of my muslim question lower down in the comments.
