And median household income was about $10,000. Things cost less sure, but you made less. $5 - 7 back then is about $25 - 30 bucks now. Inflation in the 70's was pretty nuts at times.But, its also worth noting that the $35 Archie "lost" is probably around $150 in today's money. (Since I don't know the exact year of this episode, this is a little bit of guessing).The 70's were NOT simpler times economically. They were really rough for a lot of people. Double-digit inflation was common.

Completely classic scene from THE greatest sitcom of all time. Although I must say, Gloria should have just paid the plumber the ten bucks herself out of her own pocket instead of "lending" it to Archie! Her and Mike live there too and use the sink too!!
