I love all three Mrs. Lovette's. Each brought something different to the character. so i wont denounce any ^^ although George Hearn will always be my favorite Sweeney for his voice and attitude convey such emotion and gain a reaction. (johnny was great as well so thumbs up) =)

There is no audience reaction because this was filmed in the dress rehersal. I do agree with you though it does make it funnier

OK, folks (very young and naive folks): This is apples and oranges. Sweeney Todd is an Opera performed on the stage. They are supposed to be old. The film is fabulous, but it is another animal altogether. Burton did a great job, and the wonderful bloodlust carries over to the film in younger characters. But the humor, and the singing - well, there just isn't much in the film. I feel sorry for you guys who never got to experience this in person.

I know that it's easy to compare the movie to the play, but I see it this way: Tim Burton wanted to make the movie more sinister and personally, I think that the movie has a lot more depth to it than the play. I mean, it's about revenge, it's about a man losing his sanity and the woman who's desperately in love with him but can't reach him. Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter did an extroardinary jobbecause their characters are a lot more complex than the play seems to let on.

lol I absolutely LOVE angela's little dance interludes. truly hysterical.also, why can't we hear the audience's laughing/applause during the song? in other versions I can hear it. I dunno but i think that the audience's reaction makes everything twice as funny, and i missed it.

Well, I have to say that I like Angela better as Mrs. Lovett but I think Helena brought something different. She even stated during an interview that Tim Burton told her to tone down her expressions. So, in that case, it was poor directing on Burton's part.
