alan wilder gave a huge contribution to create the dark sound of depeche mode . without him it wouldn't have been the same , and after his departure , never will be the same , though martin's amazing lyirics and dave's voice are kinda astonishing.They should have continued together , but it is life . Even best love stories finish , so did depeche mode's alan's era. sadness

My fellow DM fans, please allow me to translate the Spanish comment below from Mahasian8. "Say what you want but DM continues to be great without Alan so there's no sense in crying over spilled milk and just enjoy DM with Dave. Suffice to say that without Dave's voice, Wilder's magic wouldn't have been appreciated." Personally, I agree that DM is still a good band but strongly disagree with the assessment of Alan's contributions to the band.
