Beryl is nowadays called Compiz Fusion and is only usable with Linux, so if you're on a Windows-PC or a Macintosh, there's no way, you can get it :P It's free like in free beer like all Linux-based OS...

For wireless I suggest checking Ubuntu forums to see if any Linux wireless drivers exist for your card. If none exist you can emulate your Windows drivers with ndiswrapper (can be found in Synaptics Package Manager).

Okay, so I've rebooted into Ubuntu, but I still can't connect to the internet. I know it has to be a problem with my router because Ubuntu and Windows recognize the wired network, but it's only a local connection. So I unplugged it the router to reset it.Unfortunately for me, my router has a battery, so I'll have to wait for it to die. =/In the meantime, only my wireless connection is working, which is what I'm using now. If I could get wireless to work in Ubuntu that'd be great. Any ideas?

Well it might, my laptop wasn't connected to the internet at the time. I think I tried, but for some reason it wouldn't connect, not even through the Ethernet port. Anyways, over the past hour I just downloaded and installed Ubuntu through Wubi again to see if it will work. Right now I have to reboot to finish the installation so I'll let you know how it goes.

I think you misinterpreted what Ubuntu was telling you. The open source drivers available for Nvidia cards are rather bad by comparison to the propriety drivers released by Nvidia. However, only open source software is shipped with Ubuntu. When you try to enable CF, it tells you that the Restricted (propriety) drivers must be enabled for 3D rendering. If you choose to install the "restricted" drivers, it should auto download/install them. Tell me if that doesn't work as it should.

Okay. Also, you seem to know a lot about Linux, so you think you could help me out with something?I installed Ubuntu a while ago (through Wubi because the CD wouldn't load) but I couldn't get the 3D effects because my nVidea drivers were restricted. Know any way I could get around this problem? I know there must be a way because I got Compiz Fusion on Mandriva with no problem, right from the live CD.I've heard of people "hard coding" the drivers, know anything about that? Thanks.

Tutorials regarding compilation? It depends from program to program. Keep in mind, it is rarely necessary to compile programs manually. When using a popular distribution (e.g. Ubuntu), it is rather easy to find already compiled binaries (or at least a script) whether on the website of the programs, on the forums of the distribution, or elsewhere on the internet.

Yeah I already looked up deluge and decided not to get it because of the lack of a search function. =/Know any good tutorials you could point me towards? |
