Hello! I sent you a message, because I had a lot to convey, and it would not fit into the format of this brief comment thing. And, you are a very intelligent person. But, did you notice how that guy who got the ball rolling dropped out of the discussion when we started to get into specifics? : )

race relations start with recognition of achievements...take care...I was trying to create balance...no need to curse...be a brother for a day and then say that...i am finished too...white people get sensitive when you tell the truth...

Ok, I started this whole debate thing to balance things out. And, I really want to end it. All we are doing is showing off our collective knowledge of music history (we are good at it), but with very little relevant race-relations commentary. I'm out to lunch!

Of course black and non-white musicians and performers affect classical and all other types of music. It's a continuum outside of race. Jesse Norman, Barbara Hendricks, Winton Marsalis. Yes, I can go on with the list of black musicians. But, instead, I say that this race shit has to go. I'm not digging it at all. Let's just get back to listening to music and closing our eyes and digging THAT instead.

"no shit genius"...i love the sarcasm..I was addressing gentleman's response to someone who addressed a white commenter in a very derisive manner. So it was not a general statement. I was a mere response...I am all about peace, cohesion and understanding.

No shit genius. American culture owes a HUGE debt to black people. I am a dumbass white dude but I have a profound adoration for music and I know that without black Americans our culture would be empty. I hope that if our society collapses--THIS is what we are remembered for.Jazz. Dolphy,Coltrane,Davis,Ellington,Parker and all the rest.It isn't our wars and technology that makes me proud. It is our music that makes me proudest as an American.

I am not trying to be divisive nor confrontational, however people should be aware the significant intellectual/musical contributions that have been made by black performers and composers. There contributions are not anomalous nor accidental. They are from people who have studied the craft and shown themselves to be formidable forces in their given disipline. |
