Well, not really. Yes, it is still radioactive and won't be fit for continuous human habitation for several centuries yet (estimates range between 400-800 years), it has been safe enough for day trips for a while now. You can actually take tours there from Kiev. I'm going to go next year. Some areas of Pripyat are only moderately above background radiation, other areas are still WAY hot - such as the lot where the military dumped alot of buses, firetrucks, helicopters, and other vehicles. |
