Old Town was totally renovated, So as cathedrals and some of the bulidings on streets Krakowskie Przedmiescie, Saski Palace was razed to the ground and never rebuildedThe best preserved is Praga, The Eastern part of Warsaw, during Uprising already in Soviet hands. But here and there You can find builidngs which were not totally razed, their front walls usually stood and they have the preserved bullet traces You were reffering to. You are most welcome and can count on my assistance if needed

Well Yes, There are bullet holes in many buildings in Warsaw. After Warsaw Uprising, Germans were ordered to raze the city to the ground to, as Himmler put it "destroy as much as possible of cultural and historical core of polish nation as its possible. So demolition squads razed many buildings, Of 900 monuments, 180 were saved. Many old buildings however had been not considered as monuments at the time. Many were razed by communist authorities intending to give their spirit to Warsaw

I used to read Norman Davies books, especially the Isles. I really enjoyed history of British Isles, especially those from post Roman period 500 AD to 1000AD. History of British Celtic people seemed especially interesting to me. I like history of Ireland/which You probably do not enjoy/. Interest in Polish history returned to me some time ago but usually I was reaching for something distant to Poland. I recommend You books of Norman Davies and James Watt, They write without exaggeration

If You like Polish history, visit Dom Spotkan z Historia on Karowa Street in Warsaw/they show exhibits of pictures from the different periods in our history, always with english subtitles/ and Warsaw Uprising Museum. You know I like my history too, According WWII I like history of Polish squads in RAF in WWII, polish army on the West and Poles in Napoleonic wars were their contribution was also significant. But for many years I couldnt approach my history cause it seemed so sad and tragic to me

We dont call every german a nazi bastard and dont forget that You not only destroyed our country, killed most valuable people in extermination camps and destroyed everything what they managed to rebuild of Poland in 2o years. In the effect of war half of or original territory went to Soviet Union and the 50 year of communism ate what was left of our economical and social resources. Million stolen cars wont be enough to compensate what you stole from us. So keep Your silly mouth shut.

MarymonckiJohn, don't worry, I'm experienced in public transport. I think I shall visit Warsaw first which is going against all the advise I've been given ... but I love Polish history and I also like military history, in particular WW2, which I emanate from. I've been told there are still bullet holes peppered about the place ... I like a spiritual experience .... lets go!

I lived in Poland for thirty years. Regarding public transport in my opinion is quite good and well organized. I never had any problems. As far as roads are concerned, some are in poor shape like everywhere else some are remarkable.Best wishes,Mark Wnuk

Yes but ... who uses these prostitutes .... and more importantly ... why are they in so much demand?I'm afraid "the clinic" is populated with chavs.Sorry to disappoint but the E.U is the only way to challenge the likes of China, Russia and India.

Mountains.. Tatry looking like little Alps, Bieszczady like big forest on low mountains. Tatry are best to visit in mid July/August, September due to sunny wather and ice melt period. Its close from there to Slovakia and its beautiful mountains too. Stolowe Mountains/Gory Stolowe have unique rock formations. They were used for the movie The Chronicles of NArnia. I hope I helped and didnt scare You off with the public transport description=) If You have any questions, dont bother to ask, NP
