I think w means that the wind set up a frequency within the structure that = the natural frequency. Of course the wind caused that frequency.

It was caused by the constructive interference of the gusts of wind through the 'narrows', not by the 'driver frequency'.

well when the driver frequency is equal to that of the natural frequency of the bridge, there is a large transfer of energy, as a result the bridge vibrates with maximum amplitude causing it to break. the same can be seen when a glass is broken using sound that is at a certain frequency |
