dave I believe the adjective for the CE2 is "EVEN" volume. compressors evens out the volume reagardless of your attack thus making the sound less dynamic.

it depends what your sound needs. if you set it up like this \/ you will get a scooped, crunchy, hollow sound, that doesnt cut through very well, with boosted bass and treble. if you set up like /\ you will get a chunky, possibly muddy, sound with a lot of midrange, that cuts through very well.
