hmm...would be a bit ineffective in battle judging by size and the ability to be destroyed by a single rocket...

For a thing like this to be effective, it would have to be about 7 times larger, able to stop tank AP salvos. Only then could you put one of these in a nation and expect it to do its job, since guerillas and old Russian tanks could do nothing to it while it served as a medical bay, recon post, and HQ.

Well, the weaknesses are the same for tanks too, I guess. If we're really going to have mecha in real life, it's gonna be a long, long way off. Besides, we'll probably start using powered armor instead, then gradually build those up into mechs.

couldn't have said it better

Yea, if we can make a super nimble mech which is improbable, and furthermore, as much as I'd like to see us armed with bad ass mechs the fact of the matter is that they are way too vulnerable to antitank/aerial weapons, and armoring them up a lot would only make them immobile :(

this realy looks like an MT from AC2...

This things feet are just skating across the ground. If it was sturdy with a low center of gravity, could go 60mph, and have VTOL, it would be an awesome suit for front line infantry.
WarhawkDrier (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
A real life mecha with legs would probably be used in places where the terrain would be unfit for tanks. They would also be more energy-efficient.

Mech would have high mobility but armor and firepower would suffer compared to a tank.Mech will be addicion to army not replacement to tanks (tanks would target mechs, tanks, other vehicles and mech would target light units like hummers and inflantry) thats what i think ^^And this unit can be used in new sport:PaintMECH ;D

Things like this might have belonged on a battlefield fifty years ago, but after Vietnam the world was shown that fighting a guerilla war against a technologically superior opponent can be quite successful. This thing's profile is so high that anyone can aim a tankbuster at it and take it out. This thing would never see service since in todays world the enemy is not a standing force, but rather an ever changing and unknowable entity. |
