201&1 is an incredible turn of speed for a seven year old horse. Such a feat wouldn't even be attempted today. Talk about going out on top. Phenominal!

no modern stallion can do what Seabiscuit did at his older age; horse like him, Discovery known as the iron horse n Swaps, are long gone;>>Horse racing has declined in popularity because racing and retiring 3 year olds in the same year does not allow for fans to side with a favorite horse like they would a football or baseball star who plays for several years. Just as you get attached to a horse he retires!

I agree with you wholeheartedly (I assume you read Hillenbrand's book) Tom Smith was the only reason Seabiscuit got to show the world who he was, I'm sure, and the reason Red got his moment in the spotlight. >>It was a team effort...You think without Howard's flair for promotion that Tom Smith could have gotten Riddle to agree to a match?All three came together--that was what came across in Hillenbrand's book. |
