You're right; the whole piece is shot through with medieval imagery, such as the "wheel of fortune". The film is brilliant and very funny at times. I also love the performance; better than Previn's celebrated recording, in my view.

Not only is this wonderful music, the meaning is beautifully heretical, I love it.

I started seeing images from the dark ages. I was picturing the death wagons. I was picturing how the elite viewed this entire thing. All I can say is wow. This is an amazing video. I will have to see the rest of it when I have time.

Now that I think of it, I reckon they must have watched the trailers section of any manga-licensed product because they use the whole opening segment played here. Still, damned fanboy dumbasses annoy me to no end. Don't even get me started on that feckless Dungeons and Dragons lot when it comes to cultural referances!

Which is odd, because I don't recall hearing this ANYWHERE in Evangelion....

The artistry in the music and the actual sets is incredible. Is that how the opera is - with all the people dancing around and the spinning wheel and such? Or was that added just for the movie?
