This is the first country inspired movie I ever voluntarily watched and the next one was The Outrage which he starred in as well. I think both were some of the best films I have ever seen. I have never seen him act before. I ate his chocolate cream cookies and salsa which were the bomb and now I see that nobody will ever act like him or make those bad ass munchies like him again. Nobody has any clips from The Outrage? If you have not seen it you should because he was the best player in the film.

I love the movie scene with Melvan Douglas singing along with his grandson. I remember those old cartoons that they played prior to the movie. The scene is a pure slice of Americana.

I saw this segment the other night. These lines took my breath away.

That's a great line, all right, but I think my favorite is one that comes later in the film (also spoken by Melvyn Douglas' Homer):"It don't take long to kill things. Not like it takes to grow."

great comment! Exactly! George W, Dick Chenney, Sarah Palin, Britney Spears? Where have you gone Joe Dimaggio?

This is one of the most profound lines of any movie there ever was....Look at who we admire now

one of the best lines ever! "Little by little the look of the country changes because of the men we admire." Even more true today. Paul Newman was a man to be admired. He used his wealth and talent and time on this earth to help others. There's nothing more noble or admirable.

Brilliant film with great dialogue and acting and shades of both "Giant" and "East of Eden." Newman was great. (I admired the actor who played young Lon and of course, Melvyn Douglas.) Patricia Neal had a great role. Paul Newman will be sorely missed for being a legend of substance, integrity and heart. |
