I think.. that when the time comes that ai is self improving.. it will not only be self improving.. but also be able to improve maybe everything known to humans beings (like the a'bomb) and maybe more.. surely the end of times... no?

yep it doesnt have a con it wont think about its future or have retirement plans or question why it can see and hear also exsist in its own little dimention dosnt have understanding let alone conciousness most people arnt even concious heh although our minds can easly be emulated so i believe ai will progress will even dream, but we still have alot to learn about ourselves ,are our minds a work of art? or just one big disorder after another heh

ur nt gettin wat im saying. Even if you call quarks n chemicals n all else conscious we still kno the make up of their consciousness. We can re create them. even if consciousness is a math problem, it is one that we do not know and one that as far as we are concerned has no special laws to which it must adhere too, so if consciousness is outside the scope of our knowledge and re creation then it is likewise outside the scope of being taken over by our machines based of our knowledge.

lol noob, your talking about the magical "soul"? cling to your idea's of specialness, but all is special, all is life, the same "consciousness" is apparent in every aspect of life from the quarks to your algorithms. balance is the meaning of life, but imbalance is it's secret.

Well as it stand, AI wont take over because of one important reason. it does not have a consciousness...it may have an algorithm for it but as every algorithm has its parameters(meaning it has certain laws which it must follow and certain things it cannot do) as humans with no known parameters on our consciousness we are "more advanced" and have the capability to find loopholes and and advantages which we can exploit to our advantage in the algorithms of AI...maybe paramterless chaos theory??

Maybe. I'm hard pressed to think of another field or frontier science which has so infamously failed to deliver on its promises. I tend to think that AI is inevitable, but I'm wary of time frames. The fact that the AI community has this reputation is a little scary, since it would seem to suggest that they think they know a lot more about AI than they do. This kind of ignorance increases the chance of AI becoming a disaster for mankind. Hybrid's would probably be safer...
